The Batman 1960ies episodes have reached icon status. The shows aired right in the middle of the turbulent 1960ies and offered an uplifting escape for those disillusioned by reality. Even though the Batman episodes were mild compared to the comic book persona or even the Dark Knight of today the series still had an edge too it. Although designed to be a camp comedy that was hip with the pop culture of the day the series still projected a certain edge that was not expected. Adam West portrayed Batman as a serious character who managed to always keep a straight face. He gave his heart to a role that would stereotype him and follow him for the rest of his career. The lines may have been cheesy but the entertainment value was real and a loyal audience was established.
The Batman 1960ies episodes typically followed the same plot. This would lead to Batman and Robin sliding down Bat-poles located in Bruce Wayne's manor down into the famous Bat-cave. From there the caped crusaders would speed off in the Bat-mobile in search of their foe. By the end of every episode Batman or Robin would find themselves in some type of death trap designed by that episodes villain and you would have to wait until the next day to see if they survived.
