The highly anticipated Batman 1960ies TV Collection is here at last. The set consists of the entire 120 episodes that were aired from January 12, 1966 to March 14, 1968. By airing two episodes per week on Wednesday and Thursday night the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) was able to fit five years of episodes into a two and a half year period. Children everywhere were glued to their television sets to see the cape crusader end the ambitions of one of the reoccurring villains. Although considered quite cheesy today it was very enjoyable as a child and the series enlisted countless Batman fans forever.
The Batman character first appeared in DC comics back in 1939. Although the series was loosely based on that character it still captured the imagination of millions. The Batman 1960ies series placed a serious character into situations that make us laugh today. The show did have some interesting quirks though. Many times when they entered the villains hideout the floor would be slanted and the fight scenes were mild by today's standards but the show had appeal. In the 1960ies children of all ages were looking for a hero to take their mind off of turbulent times. Batman was able to do that and has cemented a final resting place in the memories of many fans.
Adam West portrayed Batman in the 1960ies series. Although his character was serious it was not nearly as dark as the Batman character displayed in motion pictures of today. Batman was simply a hero who saved Gotham City two nights out of every week. The show became famous for its assortment of villains, the cheesy one-liners and the animated sounds that appeared every time Batman or Robin punched a bad guy. Yes the show was simple in comparison to the DC comic or today's dark knight but then again the 1960's were a bridge between simpler times and stressful ones. Good always defeated evil and the world was always saved.
The Batman 1960ies TV Collection is a must for any Batman fan. Take a journey once again with Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as his faithful sidekick Robin as they slide down Bat Poles and cruise away in the Bat Mobile headed for glory. You can find this long awaited collection online and share it with your children and grand children today.
